The Target Range Sewer
& Water District is a regional district
chartered by the state of Montana. Originally organized in
2000 to protect the water quality of the Missoula Aquifer in the Target Range area, the District was expanded last year by a request of the residents that lived outside the existing district boundaries who felt they would be better served if they were included in the district. The Target Range Sewer & Water District does not currently intend to install sewer and water lines west of Reserve street, their approach is through conservation and smarter use of the existing septic and well infrastructure that currently exists in the area.
The District has the following goals:
- A localized focus on the issues that are important to residents in the district
- Conservation of local water resources
- Protecting the Missoula Aquifer by encouraging and preserving low densities
- Education - Mailings to residents on proper septic use and maintenance
- Monitoring and Testing of ground water and septic systems
- Monitoring of the sewer and water issues for future planned developments
- Recommendations for improved septic systems
- Replacement of cesspools with septic systems (to be funded by grants)
Since 2000 the district has been run with no funding and by volunteers. You can see by our list of goals, it would be impossible to accomplish any of these without proper funding, and someone needs to be available to coordinate the ever increasing sewer and water related activates within the district. Even a simple mailing to everyone in the district costs about $400 - something we are currently unable to do. Your $23 per year will help us move forward with these goals and help to protect and preserve our natural environment.
